The President of Montenegro’s Council proposes amendments to electoral legislation to ensure political inclusion of the Roma community

On the occasion of International Roma Day, the Youth Initiatives Council of the President of Montenegro will submit to the Parliament of Montenegro an initiative to amend the Law on the Election of Councillors and Members of Parliament, with the aim of ensuring authentic representation of the Roma community in the highest legislative body.
- The initiative was supported this morning by ten representatives of organizations working to improve the position of the Roma community in Montenegro, including the Roma Council, NGO CAREP, NGO „Walk with Us – Phiren Amenca“, NGO „Activist Center of Roma and Egyptians“, NGO „Path of Change“, NGO „Young Roma of Podgorica“, NGO „Black Pearls“, NGO „Roma Integration“, NGO „Roma Time“, and NGO „Rise Up Roma“ - the Office of the President of Montenegro announced.
The Youth Initiatives Council emphasizes that authentic political representation of Roma is not only a matter of justice, but also a key step toward building a truly multicultural and inclusive society, in which all citizens have equal opportunities to participate in decision-making that affects their lives.
