Milatović and Plenković: Cooperation between Montenegro and Croatia stronger than outstanding issues

Cooperation between Montenegro and Croatia is stronger than the outstanding issues – that was concluded during a meeting between President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.

Milatović stated that Montenegro remains committed to good neighborly relations and European integration, and that it will continue to actively contribute to dialogue and the resolution of outstanding issues, while strongly insisting on cooperation and the shared interests of the two countries.

Milatović and Plenković met on the sidelines of the Three Seas Initiative Summit in Dubrovnik.

- The meeting was held at a time when there is a need for new momentum in bilateral relations and strengthening mutual trust. The aim of the meeting was to intensify political dialogue on the remaining open issues, as well as to continue Croatia’s support for Montenegro’s European path - the statement says.

Milatović emphasized the importance of holding high-level talks between Montenegro and Croatia, especially in this final phase of European integration.

- He sent three important messages: The first message was addressed to the governments of Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia, that it is necessary to further intensify political consultations in order to resolve the outstanding issues between our two countries as soon as possible - the President’s Office stated.

Milatović directed the second message to political actors in Croatia and Montenegro.

- In the context of our bilateral relations and Montenegro’s European future, it is necessary to lower tensions and strengthen messages of good neighborliness - Milatović said, emphasizing that bilateral relations are the responsibility of all political actors, not just the current governments.

He particularly highlighted the role of society in both countries in strengthening mutual understanding and trust.

- The third message is addressed to citizens, intellectuals, and cultural workers of Montenegro and Croatia, those who already serve as a bridge of cooperation between our societies - the statement added, concluding that they should provide an additional contribution to building a shared European future.
