From August 10 fines for illegal parking and stopping €100; Mujović: New road traffic law a chance to remove street bollards

The recently adopted Law on Road Traffic Safety could mark a turning point in improving traffic management and public order in Podgorica. I hope we will soon begin removing the plastic bollards from our streets, Podgorica Mayor Saša Mujović said.

Under the new law, the Capital City’s Municipal Police will be granted broader powers and will be able to sanction all cases of illegal parking and stopping on streets, sidewalks, green areas, bus and taxi stops, as well as parking spaces designated for persons with disabilities.

As explained, when municipal police officers spot an illegally parked vehicle, they will be authorized to issue a fine and leave the ticket on the vehicle’s windshield.

- The prescribed fine for this type of offence is €100. Around 30 municipal police officers will be assigned to these duties, in line with available staffing capacities. Of course, tow trucks will continue to operate as well - Mujović said.

The new Road Traffic Safety Law will enter into force on August 7. However, through August 9, municipal police officers will issue warnings to offending drivers without imposing fines.
