Zirojević to Portal ETV: There will be no place for the Democrats in the next government, we will restore the dignity of the security sector

In an interview with Portal ETV, Nikola Zirojević, a Member of Parliament from the European Alliance, said that following the 2027 parliamentary elections, the security sector, currently overseen by the Democrats, will undergo fundamental reforms. According to him, there will no longer be room for individuals who are not loyal to the state of Montenegro. He also argued that parties obstructing Montenegro's path toward the European Union, even if they surpass the electoral threshold, will not be part of the next government, while describing the increasingly frequent attacks on the European Alliance as a reflection of fear over political change and the loss of power.
- The time has come for fundamental reforms in the security sector - there will be no place for those who are not loyal to the state - Zirojević said, announcing that after the elections, the European Alliance will be part of the government that leads Montenegro into the European Union.
Speaking to Portal ETV, Zirojević said that both domestic and international political developments clearly indicate that the European Alliance will become part of the next governing coalition after the parliamentary elections.
- It is only logical that those whose political beginnings and long-standing work laid the groundwork for Montenegro's European path, those who dreamed of a European Montenegro, should be part of the government that ultimately brings the country into the European Union. Our international partners recognize this as well. They know very well which political actors genuinely support the European path and which ones slow it down and seek to obstruct it - Zirojević said.
He believes that such parties will have no place in the future executive branch.
- Even if they manage to pass the electoral threshold in the next elections, and polling suggests they are hovering right around it, they will be removed from government because they do not deserve to be there. That is precisely why we are witnessing increasingly frequent attacks on the European Alliance. Those attacks will not shake us. We will respond to every falsehood with facts and arguments - he said.

Addressing the security sector, Zirojević stressed the need to restore public confidence in state institutions.
- Security institutions must not become objects of ridicule. They must be staffed by honorable, honest, and professional individuals who are, above all, loyal to the state of Montenegro. There can be no place in this sector for those who are not loyal to Montenegro and who regard another country as their homeland. Once the European Alliance enters the next government, these changes will follow - he emphasized.
He added that one of the Alliance's priorities would be protecting professionals who, he said, have spent years under political pressure.
- We must protect all those who have been targeted, stigmatized, and subjected to various forms of persecution. We will not be concerned with how someone votes; the only questions that matter are whether they are loyal to the state of Montenegro and whether they perform their duties in accordance with the law - he said.
According to Zirojević, the European Alliance's participation in government would bring much-needed renewal to Montenegro and provide additional momentum for the country's EU integration process.
- We believe we will fulfill what our international partners expect from us and ensure that Montenegro's membership in the European Union is not merely formal, but substantive, grounded in reforms and European standards across all sectors - Zirojević concluded.
