No Defence and Security Council session today: Government wants hybrid threats discussed by the National Security Council first

The session of the Defence and Security Council, which was supposed to address the Prime Minister’s claims about hybrid activities and attempts to destabilise Montenegro, will not be held today, the Portal ETV has been unofficially informed by the Office of the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović.

Last Thursday, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić said that the country’s authorities had „serious security and operational information“ indicating that the planned closure of a chapter in the European Union accession negotiations would be accompanied by coordinated hybrid activities involving officials from at least two countries in the region.

Following the statement, Milatović called an urgent session of the Defence and Security Council. However, the Government believes that a session of the National Security Council, chaired by Prime Minister Spajić, should be held first.

In light of the Prime Minister’s allegations concerning hybrid activities, the Office of the President of Montenegro said that the question arises as to what steps the competent institutions are taking in response.

- Additional concern is caused by media reports that a senior government official is under the influence of individuals from criminal structures. The public has the right to know which official this is and who bears responsibility if such information was known at the time of the official’s appointment or during their tenure, as well as what measures the competent institutions have taken - the Office of President Milatović said earlier.

The Office announced that the President of Montenegro would invite the heads of the security sector to the session and ask them to provide precise information regarding Spajić’s claims, as well as a comprehensive assessment of the security situation.
