Mandić case still awaiting decision by High Court

Appeal proceedings in the case of Danilo Mandić, the nephew of Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić, are still underway before the High Court in Podgorica - public relations adviser at the Basic Court in Podgorica, Jelena Rosandić, told the ETV Portal.

The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office filed an appeal against the first-instance judgment concerning Danilo Mandić, who was acquitted of charges of causing minor bodily injuries and the unlawful possession of weapons and explosive materials, but was sentenced to one year in prison for stealing an official vehicle belonging to Parliament.

The first-instance judgment was handed down on April 20 by Judge Ivana Becić.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, on April 19, 2025, Mandić used a Parliament-owned Land Rover to block the path of Podgorica residents Darko Perović and Aris Turković near the intersection of Marka Miljanova Street and Ivan Crnojević Boulevard. Mandić then allegedly fired several shots at them, according to the indictment, and Perović was wounded in the shooting.

In the reasoning of the first-instance judgment, the judge stated that Mandić had been acquitted of charges of causing minor bodily injury, committing a serious offence against public safety, and the unlawful possession of weapons because his guilt had not been proven.

- Perović and Turković do not know who fired the projectile or who inflicted their injuries. This part of the indictment remained at the level of reasonable suspicion, as even the eyewitnesses - passers-by who happened to be at the scene - did not see who fired the shot - the judgment states.
