Montenegro will have another Reception Centre for foreigners seeking international protection in Božaj.

The Ministry of the Interior has announced a public tender for the construction of the Reception Centre, valued at 690.000 euros excluding VAT.

This amount includes construction works, building adaptation and final finishing works. The public tender is open until February 2nd.

When announcing the construction of the centre, the Ministry of the Interior stated that the project would significantly improve and expand accommodation capacities.

Montenegro currently operates reception centres for foreigners seeking international protection in Spuž and Božaj. These centres are part of the migration and asylum management system, supported by UNHCR, IOM, and the European Union, and they provide temporary accommodation, healthcare, and support to migrants.

The existing Reception Centre for foreigners in Božaj, with a capacity of 60 people, was opened in 2020. Its construction was financed by the Government of Montenegro with 470.000 euros, while the European Union allocated 400.000 euros from its Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) funds for the reconstruction of the former „Božaj“ border post and the construction of the centre.
