Organised return of Montenegrin citizens from Sicily: Convoy to depart from Catania at 8 p.m. tonight
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has organised an evacuation convoy for Montenegrin citizens who were stranded in Sicily due to disruptions to air traffic caused by the activity of Mount Etna, arranging for their return to Montenegro via Italy and Albania.
- The Government of Montenegro and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been monitoring the situation in Sicily from the outset and have remained in constant contact with our citizens who, due to disruptions to air traffic caused by the activity of Mount Etna, were prevented from returning to Montenegro. Through a proactive approach and coordinated action by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Montenegro in Rome and the Embassy of Montenegro in Tirana, we have secured an alternative means of their return to Montenegro - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
As stated, bus transportation will be organised for Montenegrin citizens from Catania to Bari, where representatives of the Embassy of Montenegro in Rome will meet them and accompany them to the ferry to Durrës.
Upon arrival in Durrës, they will be met by representatives of the Embassy of Montenegro in Tirana, after which bus transportation to Podgorica will be organised. The evacuation convoy is scheduled to depart from Catania (Piazza Stazione) at 8 p.m. tonight, arriving in Bari in the morning hours of August 15, between 7 and 8 a.m.
The ferry to Durrës is scheduled to depart at noon and arrive in Durrës at 9 p.m.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Montenegrin citizens currently in Catania who have not yet contacted the Embassy of Montenegro or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to do so as soon as possible if they wish to join the organised evacuation convoy.
- We will continue to monitor the situation and, in line with developments, undertake all necessary activities to provide support and assistance to our citizens. Assisting Montenegrin citizens, as before, remains a priority for the Government of Montenegro and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, so that in emergency situations we can provide timely and concrete support to our citizens and help them return safely to Montenegro - the statement concluded.
