Bešović: Six fires currently active, most under control

Director General of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue Miodrag Bešović said that six fires are currently active across Montenegro, most of which are under control.

- In the Municipality of Herceg Novi, a fire is active in the area of Đenovići, where it is under control, while fires have also been reported in Ponikvice in the Municipality of Danilovgrad, at Crni Vrh in Kolašin, and at Briska Gora in the Municipality of Ulcinj. Active fires have also been recorded in the area of Bijele Poljane in Cetinje and in Klopot, within the territory of the Capital City of Podgorica - Bešović said.

He said that Montenegro’s aerial firefighting forces were deployed to several wildfire sites across the country yesterday.

- An Air Tractor AT-802 aircraft operated by the Ministry of Interior was deployed to fight the fire in Bijele Poljane, in the territory of the Royal Capital Cetinje. At the fire in Klopot, within the territory of the Capital City of Podgorica, an Air Tractor AT-802 and an Antonov AN-32P aircraft were deployed. A helicopter of the Armed Forces of Montenegro was engaged in firefighting operations in Đenovići - Bešović said.

During the morning, intensive communication was maintained between the 112 Operational and Communication Centre and the Ulcinj Protection and Rescue Service regarding the deployment of aircraft. According to Bešović, the situation is being continuously monitored at all locations.

- Particular focus remains on the timely detection of new fire outbreaks and preventing them from spreading - Bešović said.
